Evan Kindley just reminded me of a great and unusual short clip that is floating around on YouTube — in which Kenneth Koch is interviewed by Mr. Rogers, of all people.
The person who posted this mentions the clip comes from the show “Old Friends, New Friends,” which, according to this link, aired in 1978. Koch speaks about how teaching poetry to senior citizens (the subject of his book I Never Told Anyone: Teaching Poetry to Old People) can make them feel like “a necessary part of life” and more needed by the world.
For some reason there is something mildly mind-blowing about seeing Kenneth Koch and Mr. Rogers on the same screen. It would be great to see the rest of this interview.
